How I Am Merging Fitness and A Standing Height Desk

When I first started at Workwell Partners in early 2014, I began hearing a lot of “buzzwords” for the trends and products in the commercial furniture industry. Some of these have been featured on this blog in the past few months, including “activity based working“, “collaboration”, and “benching“. But none have hit as close to me personally as the concept of height-adjustable workstations, one of the most widely discussed product categories and concepts in the industry now. Workwell’s offices feature a variety of workstations – from private offices to more open panel based systems and benching applications. My designated work area is located on a bench, where I sit with 7 other individuals at standard sized 30″ x 60” workstations. The Top Three Workplace Trends We Saw at Facebook NY

On Tuesday, May 5th our team was part of a tour at Facebook’s New York City Headquarters, hosted by CoreNet Global’s Young Leaders. Facebook’s offices, located at 770 Broadway in Manhattan, take up space on the 2nd, 7th and 8th floors of the building that also houses tenants like J. Crew, AOL, Huffington Post and Structure Tone. Like their campus in California, the offices here in New York were designed by the iconic Frank Gehry and feature many of the same design elements that the campus has, such as the industrial finishes on the ceilings of the office. Like many creative and entrepreneurial spaces, Facebook has developed a reputation for having really interesting offices that are cool, unique, and memorable. Workwell Hosts Event Celebrating Innovative Height Adjustable Desk

On Wednesday, March 18, Workwell hosted a party to showcase the latest and most innovative height adjustable desk on the market, the Stir Kinetic Desk M1. The M1 is driven by software that not only makes programming and adjusting the height of the work surface extremely simple, it recognizes the user and adapts to their preferences. With nearly 100 in attendance, guests were able to test out three M1 desks and chat with the team from Stir, including CEO, Founder & Designer, JP Labrosse. JP, a former Apple engineer who worked on the early iPod development teams for the iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle Shuffle and iPod Classic, is the leading force behind the creation of the Stir M1. A Presentation From Horm Design

Yesterday, our team participated in a presentation from Horm Design, a designer and manufacturer of furniture for the workplace and home. The company, founded in 1989, is based out of Italy and ships to 70 countries worldwide. While listening to the presentation and viewing the designs of some of their key pieces, our team quickly realized the company’s passion for exclusive, elegant, and playful designs. Below is some information on a few of our team’s favorite pieces – many of which are versatile and unique to our market. Though it took me a while to gather my thoughts, here’s how I replied: “It depends. But before I answer your question, let me ask you: When was the last time you entered a space by curiosity? Why did you go in? Did the space have anything to offer? From my experience, a person enters a space because it has something they want. This “Value” could be goods to buy, things to try, or even places to explore. If the goal is to attract people to come in, the space needs to offer something the user wants. Today, our team was treated to a presentation about the Haworth Collection at Haworth’s New York City Showroom, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Senior Haworth Collection Business Development Manager John Debell took our team on a journey through the design history and future of the Haworth Collection brands, including Cappellini, Poltrona Frau, and Cassina. With so many exciting product launches, localization programs, and design achievements, Haworth Collection is set to have a great 2015. Project: Avaya Location: Thornton, Colorado Timeline: May – November 2014 Key Features: Hoteling workstations, private offices, conference rooms, reception area, cafe area Manufacturers: Haworth, Humanscale, Tuohy, Cappellini About The Project: Completed in Fall 2014, the project for telecommunications giant Avaya is an example of how we are able to work with clients that have a national real estate portfolio. Although the project location was just outside of Denver, Colorado, it was managed from Workwell’s New York City location. Utilizing Haworth dealer and local Denver partner Pear Solutions for delivery and installation, the corporate office featured 21 private offices with Haworth Compose Desking, Lively task seating and Very side seating. Over 300 workstations featuring Compose Desking and Haworth  X Series storage provide areas for individuals to complete focus work, as well as team collaboration. (As Published in The Monday Morning Quarterback, November 11, 2014): Activity Based Working (ABW), or the model that strays from the common office layout of cubicles, private offices and conference rooms to a space where employees utilize multiple areas around the office dependent on their varied task at hand, is a topic that isn’t new – but is gaining speed worldwide. This trend has seen the implementation of benching and desking systems in offices as the main location for workers, with function-specific spaces located throughout the space. In my 10 years of experience, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to read minds; those of colleagues, salespeople, project managers, etc, because they were liaisons between myself and the client. In recent years, though, I have found this obstacle greatly reduced; in part, by learning and growing with experience, but mostly from joining a team that allows me direct contact with end users.
