Top NeoCon 2016 Trends: #1

Another year, another awesome NeoCon Showcase in Chicago. With so many interesting showrooms to stop by, it was a marathon few days for our team exploring new products, discovering prominent trends, and meeting up with industry friends and colleagues. More so than ever, we found that many different manufacturers subscribed to the same trends, or as our own Principal Scott Lesizza puts it: “it’s as if the contract furniture Illuminati got together earlier this year“. We found several trends thrown to the forefront of the showcase and over the next few days, we will be sharing them with you right here on our blog- complete with photos and our firsthand take on what we thought was most impactful. So – what trend is up first? Color. Pantone Colors of the Year Pantone is the standard for color in industries from interior design, fashion, and art. Each year they crown their “Color of the Year” […]

Pop of Color

Yesterday, our team was treated to lunch and met the lovely ladies from Poppin! From design to delivery, this company seems to be on to something. To quote their presentation, they are “simply different.” Based in NYC (and quickly expanding!), Poppin is a one-stop shop from your desk accessories to your actual desk and chair. Their bright colors and customizable options are designed to help make you more productive, inspired, but most importantly work happy.  Poppin dove into some of their most popular products for us which included: their Stow File Cabinet, Series A Ping-Pong Conference Table, and Block Party Configuration sofa and chairs. All of which are very easily modified to fit the space that they are in and the people they are servicing. Aside from their products, Poppin prides themselves on their smart engineering, easy ordering, unrivaled pricing, affordable installation, fast shipping, and certified quality. They make is very easy for you from […]

Back at it for another year! As some of you may remember from last year, our team and invited guests attended the “it” event for Commercial Real Estate in New York City, the New York City Chapter of CoreNet Global’s Annual Dinner. With attendance being at an all time high for this coveted event, this night of networking and celebration was held at a new venue, the Intrepid Museum. From the design competition to the performance by saxophonist, Alex Foster, this night did not disappoint! It was an evening filled with great conversation, delicious food and drinks amongst colleagues, clients, and friends. “Hipster Chic” and Its Influence on Space Design

Guest Post Written By: Scott Lesizza, Principal at Workwell Partners There’s the famous scene in Saturday Night Fever where Tony Monero is sitting on park bench with Stephanie staring out at the Verrazano Bridge. The bridge was symbolic of the huge economic and cultural divide between Brooklyn and Manhattan (although Staten Island’s on the other side – go figure). Great scene, but is it still relevant? There is no overlooking the fact that “Made in Brooklyn” has become mainstream. It began ten or so years ago with gentrification forced by the high cost of Manhattan living, and led to a boom in homegrown, organic and civic-minded businesses.  These businesses, primarily located in the once abandoned warehouses of Williamsburg, Red Hook and now Long Island City became well known breweries, Indie studios, clothing and jewelry makers, art galleries, and increasingly home to influential furniture makers. I was at a meeting with an industry professional last week […]

Our Top Design Trends for 2016

Azure Magazine recently published their Top 4 Design Trends for 2016 – a look at what we can expect in the new year. Although we agreed with a few of the trends (electric blue everywhere, jewel tones taking center stage), these are the trends we’ve seen picking up steam in our industry. Nature + Stripped Down Finishes It’s hard to deny that nature is having a serious moment in design. Whether it is found in reclaimed wood panel installations, exposed concrete flooring, or integrated into the furniture throughout the space, design is going back to basics. Even incorporating natural flora patterns in fabrics and artwork is becoming more prominent, along with plant life itself in the form of living walls. Some of our favorite pieces and projects from the last year take a page from this trend, and also go hand in hand with one of the bigger trends of 2015: bringing the home into the office. […]

Our Night With The WELL Building Standard

Last week, our team attended the New York City Chapter of CoreNet Global’s Sustainability Community’s discussion on the WELL Building Standard (WELL). The discussion was both interesting and informative, with many audience questions and real life applications in organizations in New York City. What was most beneficial about the event was learning about how the certification can positively impact the sustainability of the space, as well as the health of the occupants. What is WELL? WELL is one of the most comprehensive building standards that promotes health, well-being, and sustainability in the built environment. Spearheaded by Delos, a company whose goal is to building a healthier, more balanced and more sustainable spaces, WELL focuses on seven main areas, or “concepts”. These concepts help determine WELL Certification and take a look at more than just the bones and structure of the space, but how the space is also being used, and include the following: Air – […]

Office of the Future… How About the Office of the Present?

Guest Post, Written By: Scott Lesizza, Principal at Workwell Partners I have spent the past six months attending seminars, reading articles, and listening to just about everyone share an opinion on what the office of the future will look like. It seems that almost everyone that you speak to has an opinion on what offices will look like 10 years out. I’ve heard everything from finding ways for people to work in outdoors spaces or bringing the outdoors “indoors”, to creating spaces that are a home away from home – all great concepts. But what about those folks we call “clients”? You know, the ones whose leases are up and need to move within the next 6 to 12 months and are looking to create a space now that does not become obsolete in five years? The ones who understand that it might be cool to go and work from a hammock in ten years […]

Designing Offices For Introvert + Extrovert Needs

Here at Workwell, we love the consultative process with many of our clients looking to improve their office space for their teams. It’s an opportunity for our designers and account executives to provide advice on what would work best for each individual client’s needs. Something that we’ve heard more and more from clients, as well as many industry experts, is the need to design these spaces with both introverts and extroverts in mind. For myself, I like to say that I’m in introvert trapped in an extrovert’s body. I love social interaction, networking, and meeting new people, but while I am working during the day, it’s a little bit of a different story. If you frequent Workwell’s office, you may find me seated at my desk with my headphones in, listening to music while I plug away at my desk. As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, I sit on a bench configuration within our space […]
