NeoCon 2016 Trend: “Unfinished” Business

As far as clichés go, “the devil is in the details” is one of the most commonly used, as well as one of my favorites. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, the most minute of things can often have the biggest impact. I found at NeoCon this year, this was as true as ever before. One of the most common examples was the “unfinished” edges found everywhere from conference tables to workstations. Allermuir’s line of standing height tables, “Silta”, showcased how a simple unfinished edge could integrate seamlessly with polished aluminum, laminate and wood detailing: In Vitra’s Showroom, their “Joyn” Conference Table brought together a dark surface and black legs with a light, unfinished edge: The “Truss Benching System” from West Elm Workspace mixes a comfortable, residential feel with the clean lines and simplistic finishes many designers love: Neinkamper’s “Nomad Flexibility Workspace” and “Vox” Conferencing provide another stellar example of the unfinished edges, this […]

Top NeoCon 2016 Trends: #1

Another year, another awesome NeoCon Showcase in Chicago. With so many interesting showrooms to stop by, it was a marathon few days for our team exploring new products, discovering prominent trends, and meeting up with industry friends and colleagues. More so than ever, we found that many different manufacturers subscribed to the same trends, or as our own Principal Scott Lesizza puts it: “it’s as if the contract furniture Illuminati got together earlier this year“. We found several trends thrown to the forefront of the showcase and over the next few days, we will be sharing them with you right here on our blog- complete with photos and our firsthand take on what we thought was most impactful. So – what trend is up first? Color. Pantone Colors of the Year Pantone is the standard for color in industries from interior design, fashion, and art. Each year they crown their “Color of the Year” […]

7th Annual Big Apple Run For The Warriors

At the end of April, Workwell Partners formed a team for the 7th Annual Big Apple Run For The Warriors which benefits Hope For The Warriors foundation. This past Sunday, two of our team members hit the pavement in the Financial District and ran 3 miles for this great cause. Founded aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in 2006, this national nonprofit organization’s mission is to restore self, family, and hope to service members, their families, and families of the fallen through many different programs. The main focus of the different programs is about transition services, clinical health and wellness, as well as sports and recreation. This year marks their tenth anniversary of serving those who served. Over the past month and half, our team raised $795 for Hope for the Warriors. To give a breakdown of where our donation goes, here are some stats: $10 provides a meal to a service member at a […]

Out & About: Our Fun Night of Networking

Last night was a big night of networking and fun for our team! Two events took center stage for us: CoreNet Global NY’s Big Speaker Program featuring Shark Tank’s Daymond John and IIDA NY’s Color Invasion 2015. CoreNet: Big Speaker Program Featuring Daymond John Each fall CoreNet hosts the Big Speaker Program, and this year’s speaker was one of the best yet. Daymond John, Founder and CEO of FUBU and star of ABC’S Shark Tank, was both motivational and hilarious while speaking to the group at the W Hotel Union Square. Although John is famous for his savvy entrepreneurial spirit in music, fashion and media – he related his experiences and lessons learned to the real estate, facilities, and interiors industries of the audience members. With humble beginnings and a desire to be successful, he created a global lifestyle brand with sales well in the billions through the realization that there was an untapped need in […]

Workwell Embarks On Scavenger Hunt

One of the best times of the year for our team is our Annual Company Outing. Each year, we try to plan a fun-filled and memorable day for our employees to spend time together in a casual stress-free setting as a small thank them for all they do throughout the year. This year, we have to really pat ourselves on the back, as we think we’ve outdone ourselves. With the help of the folks at Rock, Paper, Team, our staff embarked on a fast-paced, hysterically funny photo scavenger hunt in the Financial District of Manhattan. Each team was given a list of tasks to complete and take photos of during the hunt, which started at our office. Everything from the subway ride downtown to the bar challenge was planned perfectly to provide us the opportunity to think outside the box and integrated our company and brand into the search. We were given fun challenges like:  “entire team sing […]

Our Night With The WELL Building Standard

Last week, our team attended the New York City Chapter of CoreNet Global’s Sustainability Community’s discussion on the WELL Building Standard (WELL). The discussion was both interesting and informative, with many audience questions and real life applications in organizations in New York City. What was most beneficial about the event was learning about how the certification can positively impact the sustainability of the space, as well as the health of the occupants. What is WELL? WELL is one of the most comprehensive building standards that promotes health, well-being, and sustainability in the built environment. Spearheaded by Delos, a company whose goal is to building a healthier, more balanced and more sustainable spaces, WELL focuses on seven main areas, or “concepts”. These concepts help determine WELL Certification and take a look at more than just the bones and structure of the space, but how the space is also being used, and include the following: Air – […]

“From Head To Heart To Hand”: Architecture & Furniture

Every year, Haworth holds a Dealer Day on the Sunday before NeoCon to celebrate their dealer network with workshops, a cocktail party and a tour of the Chicago Showroom. While the party and tour are a great opportunity to network and meet other dealers from around the world and see the new NeoCon spaces, it’s really the workshops that stand out to me. As a marketer, I often find myself interested in the creative aspects of the interiors industry like design, architecture, art. One of the workshops this year merged these creative concepts and explained what furniture dealers and manufacturers can do to leverage their skills to successfully create what not only beautiful spaces, but functional ones as well. Will Bruder, President of Will Bruder Architects based in Phoenix, took the time in the workshop to share some of his successes, as well as lessons learned in creating spaces throughout his career. The talk, titled […]

Know Your Plan. Build Your Brand.

Guest Post: Written By Brittany G. Greer, Team Leader at Workwell Partners I always say that if I could have any job in the world it would be “professional student.” As nerdy as it sounds, I’ve always loved learning. Throughout my college years, a great philosophy lecture or a passionate debate on ethics would send an electrifying jolt of creativity through me – I warned you I was nerdy!  That being said, I didn’t mind spending last Sunday at Haworth’s pre NeoCon Dealer Day learning about a topic that I find not only compelling, but extremely relevant: branding. William Arruda’s talk on branding reinforced a principle that I’ve been living by, well before my professional career began: never underestimate the power of your brand. Arruda’s book “Ditch Dare Do,” focuses specifically on personal branding for executives. Since, I’m not an executive (yet), I thought I’d put my own spin on some of his key points […]

Top NeoCon Trend: [Re]Mix of Materials

In our first two NeoCon blog posts, we discussed how color and technology were major players at the showcase. Our final favorite trend takes a look at how mixing materials can take a piece of furniture and completely change it’s look and purpose. Material Mix-Up: Chair Backs While walking around NeoCon, we noticed several manufacturers were showcasing their seating products with unique new details. Specifically, we saw a trend of wood veneers and other casing shells on the back of the chairs. Andreu World’s Best of NeoCon Gold Award-Winning Flex Executive Conference Chair (pictured left) is a great example of the power that mixing materials can have on the aesthetic of the piece. With a walnut veneer back, the Flex Executive adds a special touch to the chairs positioned around the conference table, contrasting with the light gray upholstered fabric seat. Paoli’s CO|HO chairs offer a seating solution that is both comfortable and beautiful, with an exposed […]
